The Worx Group Spells for a Cause
Prospect, CT, June 5, 2006--The Worx Group recently ranked third in the Family Service Eleemosynary Spelling Bee, but they stole first place in the eyes of families and children throughout Greater Waterbury. The sixth annual competition and festivities took place at Villa Rosa in Waterbury, CT on May 17, 2006. This one-of-a-kind fundraiser turns a spelling bee into a night on the town to benefit the Family Service of Greater Waterbury. The nine local corporations and organizations who participated in the affair came in costume and raised money to help support the many important programs and services offered by the Agency.
This year, The Worx Group team was decked out in a casino theme. The gaming group consisted of three spellers Christine Bencivenga, Scarlett Fontneau and Dutch Hollis; and seven cheerleaders Genevieve Ferratusco, Julee Gugliotti, Donna Palomba, Sejal Patel, Christopher Rinaldi, Jennifer Sparkman, and Mark Zenick.
Every year the teams compete in four categories. Awards are issued to the spelling bee winners, the team with the greatest cheers, the team with the best costumes, and the team with the most creative theme. Last year, The Worx Group won best "theme."
"Our team looks forward to this event each year, it's a great time for a great cause," said Donna Palomba, managing member of The Worx Group.
The fundraising event proved to be extremely successful. The spelling bee raised a few eyebrows along with over $13,000 for Family Service of Greater Waterbury. All of the proceeds from the night will go to support the Agency's numerous programs and services.
