The MAGIC Software Show

Who wants to go to North Carolina in the middle of August - isn't it too hot? Well on August 17th at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina, it was hotter inside than it was outside! That was the day of the MAGIC Software Show where Bob Guidotti, the Vice President for Worldwide WebSphere Sales of the IBM Software Group, outlined IBM's latest developments and gave the 300-plus executives in attendance a renewed understanding of why IBM is known as Big Blue. I mean, these are the types of advancements that we all talk about and think "some day." Well that day has arrived. As if the current portfolio of IBM products wasn't enough to try and understand, here comes a whole new round! Plus, the MAGIC Software Show was highlighted by a rousing address from featured speaker Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski of the Duke University men's basketball program.

The whole concept behind The MAGIC Software Show was to simplify the process of utilizing some of IBM's robust software. The Worx Group was a major sponsor of the event along with InCentric Solutions and of course, Big Blue. InCentric Solutions, located in North Carolina, specializes in delivering world-class collaborative and communications solutions and is an IBM premier business partner. The Worx Group has been collaborating with InCentric Solutions for many years to provide creative services and front end design for many of their applications.

The Worx Group was asked to give a presentation on how the use of great designs and effective communication principles enhance the whole MAGIC software experience.

We actually used the word MAGIC as an acronym that stands for Migration, Application, Generation, Information, and Collaboration.

As informative as these guys were, they were just the warm up act. The keynote address on Corporate Social Responsibility was still to be delivered by Mike Krzyzewski. That's Coach K to all you sports fans. In case you have been on Mars for the last 20 years, Coach K is the Head Basketball Coach for Duke University and absolutely the most entertaining speaker I have ever heard. He almost made you feel as if you too knew all of his good friends like Michael Jordan and President Bush.

We were honored to meet Coach K a few months back when we were asked to develop a website for the Emily K. Family Life Center. It's a foundation that the Coach launched in his mother's name to give inner-city kids somewhere to go, and something to do after school to keep them out of trouble. This is a great cause and I urge everyone reading this to make a small donation if you can. You can find more information at www.EmilyK.org.

Oh, did I mention that I also had a chance to speak that day? The Worx Group was asked to give a presentation on how the use of great designs and effective communication principals enhance the whole MAGIC software experience. Joe Gugliotti (Managing Member of The Worx Group) began our presentation by telling this large group of people, who came from all around the country, who The Worx Group is. I had a chance to speak about our relationship with InCentric Solutions and Coach K before handing the microphone to Donna Palomba (Managing Member of The Worx Group). Donna presented an incredible example of an integrated marketing campaign that I bet it caused some of the C-level executives in attendance to go back to their offices and schedule meetings with their marketing teams.

Add to all of this a good ol' down-south pig-pull lunch with all of the fixin's and you got one hot morning in North Carolina! Not to mention IBM gave away a ThinkPad laptop plus two Coach K signed basketballs, a USB memory stick and many other items in a great goodie bag. Everyone in attendance also received the Coach's latest book. Plus, the weather was just perfect outside! The afternoon was in the low eighties and close to 60 attendees stayed to play golf at the country club.

The entire event was a huge success, and we are looking forward to continue working with IBM and InCentric Solutions to keep the MAGIC alive!
